Mid 20th Century Elliots of Newbury Walnut & Zebrano Dressing Table with Mirror

  

Elliots of Newbury Tall Chest of Drawers. This is a large six drawer dressing table with a removable mirror made in the UK by Elliots of Newbury (EoN) and dating from the mid twentieth century. The dressing table is made from walnut with a zebrano veneer and rosewood handles to the three large drawer fronts. Approximate dimensions are 152.5cm (60" or 5ft) in width, 46cm (18") in depth, 71cm (28") in height to the main top surface and 127cm (50") in height to the top of the mirror.

The dressing table is in good overall condition for its age with no structural damage but does have some signs of wear. There are a few small chips to the veneer mainly to top and bottom edges of the large drawer fronts. One of the drawer handles has been repaired as it was split down one side. It now appears to be sound and the repair is not particularly noticeable as shown in the fifteenth photo below.

Another of the handles has had a minor repair to the bottom left-hand side as shown in the thirteenth and fourteenth photos below. There are also a few other marks, scuffs and scratches to the drawer fronts, edges and sides of the dressing table. The top surface has a couple of small areas of wear or staining to the the finish along with a few other marks and scratches from previous usage. The insides of the drawers also have a few marks and stains but are generall in good clean order. The mirror is intact with no damage to the glass and just a few minor marks or scuffs to the wooden frame. The tilting mechanism to the rear of the mirror is still in place but no longer appears to work.
